Ian Burton Counselling & Psychotherapy
I am a professional, fully accredited psychotherapist & Counsellor.
Through the practise of radical acceptance, with a thoughtful, authentic presence.
Through an empathic process of being with you wherever you are.
Through a dark night or a grey day.

WHAT ISSUES?
I work with people suffering from deep anxiety and fear, or when you feel you can’t cope, or workplace stress.
I work deeply with loss, from grief and bereavement, through early loss or betrayal, to the experience of alone-ness in life, or the loss of direction or purpose. The loss of confidence, or the feeling of not being good (enough).
I work with that yearning sense that there is something missing, something more to this life, or for those whose life is ending, or dying, or facing change, or crisis.
HOW WILL IT HELP?
Therapy often has a positive impact due to the experience of being able to talk freely and extensively, with the sense of being really listened to.
Often we are blind to our own shadow, and therapy helps us to see how we create the situations around us and thus see how to change the situations we repeat over and over.
To face what is unbearable, having a companion on the journey can give the safety and support required to work through pain and crisis.
Working through painful feelings and wounds is an experience that many describe as a release, a letting go, and what often emerges is an experience of hope and a chance to really live.
Developing tools for life, as well as the knowledge that things can change and a sense of our own power are incredibly powerful experiences.

HOW DO I WORK?
I work with the unconscious, which is that part of ourselves by definition we do not consciously see. It is the depths of our potential for growth.
If appropriate, we might explore who we are now in the roots of the past, especially our early life.
I work phenomenologically, through the felt sense in the body, being mindful of what emerges as we draw inward.
I work with the creative imagination, using visualisations, dreamwork, and other creative expressions to safely and playfully explore our innermost self.
I am an integrative therapist, so I may suggest approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gestalt, or other therapies, from my integration of training in Psychodynamic, Humanist, Existential and Transpersonal methods.
